The Floor of Heaven

This morning I saw the floor of Heaven
Patterned with colour of sheer delight
Paved in a carpet of gold and silver
And I acknowledged its creator
And His wondrous might.

Then as I prayed the colour changed
A blazing red on the horizon grew
Moved through the carpet and changed its hue
The morning sky a brilliant blue.

And as God acknowledged the prayer I said
A rainbow spread across its bed
The lilting song of a bird rang nigh
And mingled with my rapturous sigh.
