Friend to the bereaved

She's our winner

The winner of the Leader/McDonald's Achievement Award of the month is Helen Cramer, of Oyster Bay, writer of two books and a contact member of Compassionate Friends, a support group for the bereaved.
Her book Tomorrow' Dawn describes a mother's walk through the first year of grief, and its sequel, Day By Day, was written on the death of her youngest child, Catherine, in 1981 as a result of a car accident.
Mrs Cramer is telephone contact for Compassionate Friends for the Sutherland Shire and corresponds with other bereaved parents all over Australia. Her books have also sold overseas. Not only parents; but widows, grandparents and siblings have also been helped by her books.

Mrs Cramer's award is one of a series of community awards being made by the St, George and Sutherland Shire Leader and McDonald's to acknowledge personal achievement. The aim of the awards is to recognise people living in St George and Sutherland Shire who have made a significant achievement.
Readers are invited to nominate a person they feel is worthy of such an award -someone who has worked particularly hard or against difficult odds towards a specific goal. They may be successful in their studies, in leisure activities, sport or business
